31 years, 5 months, and 9 days after it started, a hunt for a golden owl has lastly ended (by way of Gizmodo). Following a path of clues left by writer and puzzle designer Régis Hauser in his e-book On the Path of the Golden Owl, revealed in 1993, the profitable scavenger unearthed a bronze reproduction of the owl on October 3. The reproduction could be exchanged for the true prize, a 10-kilogram statue fabricated from gold and silver embellished with diamonds that’s price roughly $US165,000.
Although Hauser died in 2009, the e-book’s illustrator Michel Becker grew to become the treasure hunt’s caretaker and not too long ago opened a Discord server that breathed new life into the search, making it simpler for hunters to collaborate.
On the Path of the Golden Owl is one in all many “armchair treasure hunts” revealed following the invention of the style by Package Williams in his 1979 e-book Masquerade, which contained clues resulting in a buried statue of a golden hare. One other instance of the shape, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt, incorporates puzzles whose options result in 12 buried treasure packing containers. Although the e-book was revealed in 1982, solely three of the treasures have been discovered to this point.
